I went to a different Sunday-evening pub than the usual, and heard a couple of strange and vaguely disturbing things.
Firstly, a folk version of (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction rewritten as (I Can't Get No) Sex in Bolton.
Secondly, a passing comment about being in demand. Yes, in that sense.
Eh? You wot?
Fuck it. I'm leaving anyway. I will never understand this town or its inhabitants.
Addendum : Thanks to
hirez for pointing out this fantastic article : http://www.theatlantic.com/issues/2003/03/rauch.htm.

Date: 2003-02-24 01:31 am (UTC)Well, yes. No names were mentioned, which is probably a good thing.
Scared by the cover version now - who was it by?
A folk singer called Dave.
Are you familiar with the Macc Ladds?
Date: 2003-02-24 12:35 am (UTC)They do Beer and Sex and Chips and Gravy, the North of England take on Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll.
They also do a Ramones homage entitled Eh Up, Let's Sup!
And the one which reminded me - No Sheep til Buxton.
Amuses me, since I grew up around there & it reminds me of the local culture (did I really write that?)

Date: 2003-02-24 01:58 pm (UTC)Mmmm... mushy peas! where I'm from those come as a big lump in crispy batter
I'll shut up now :)
Re: Are you familiar with the Macc Ladds?
Date: 2003-02-24 02:17 pm (UTC)I'm not sure about the fried in batter thing. It could work, but I'm being reminded of the pizza fried in batter one of my friends experienced up north somewhere. Deep fried pizza is horrible enough without battering it as well. I think I'd try the peas idea once, at least. It's not incest or folk dancing after all, and I've tried folk dancing.

Date: 2003-02-24 03:53 am (UTC)Oh, and I want so much to answer that, too. I guess my icon will have to speak for itself.
(Seriously though. Some people haven't known you long and are too shy to say much anyway. Don't be too hard on them.)

Wondering why LJ doesn't have a "very small" HTML tag.
