So have you heard any of these?

FLIPPER ('80-mid '90's)

HAPPY FLOWERS ('83-'91)

Interesting, I had completely forgotten about that particular musical classification :)

I also thought that it was abit strange including killing joke, they don't seem to fit somehow.

Once upon a time... in a field near Plymouth, it was reckoned that they could probably be heard at Land's End...

Now that'd be *my* idea of good 80s music...

Sounds good to me!

Oh, I am SO for that. NO MORE 80's cheese :)

Why don't we organise our own 80's night for Whitby and call it "Now that's what I call Bastard Kestrel music!"

I always wanted to hire a river dredger, that way you'd have a really heavy industrial "thrumming" in the background! Awesome!

That's an excellent idea.

Though there'd be a terrible crush on the stairs as all the terrified kiddywinks fled in terror...

I believe so. I would certainly call the PE sound 'headspinningly dense'. Up there with the god-like Tackhead.

"BASTARD KESTREL" Now why have I never heard of this band before? What a great name. Obviously inspired by the tepid brew Kestrel used to try to flog as lager before they just poured in more IMS.

IMS = Industrial methylated spirits.

I think the usual consumers of Kestrel's product were unconcerned with the subtle interplay of flavours upon the palate so long as it got them drunk.

There was flavour?

Brilliant :-) That looks like my record collection (minus all the dodgy Scandinavian stuff obviously). You've got to love any site which lists Godflesh, Fudge Tunnel, EyeHateGod, Iron Monkey, Melvins, Earth, Today Is The Day and Neurosis... I'd also recommend swathes of stuff by SunnO))), Electric Wizard, Khanate, Burning Witch, Botch, Converge, Teeth of Lions Rule the Divine, Thergothon and Thorr's Hammer. Bring on the noise.

Love the Monkey.

By the way, is there any chance you could bring my CDs to the Calling tomorrow?

I have got to play you some SunnO))) before you go... if nothing else the Julian Cope track has to be heard to be believed. Spread the Sunnbathing cult to Edinburgh :-) Actually, looking at the Southern Lord website reminded me I really should dig out my Grief records again...

Happy Flowers! Ha, I haven't heard them in YEARS!

But since I did listen to most of those the first time around, I get to avoid the whole satan-throat-shit thing, which is quite a relief.
