Meandering rivulet of consciousness.
Jun. 3rd, 2003 11:21 pm1. How interesting. According to Amazon, people who buy the new Future Bible heroes EP also tend to buy stuff by Puressence and Butthole Surfers. Obviously there are a lot more of me out there than I'd realised.
Flippancy aside . . . I can't really see this. Presumably it's true, though, unless someone on their web staff has a truly twisted sense of humour.
2. Amazon have Mclusky stuff on vinyl. I'm so there.
They're Welsh, allegedly. I like them even more after hearing this.
3. They also have a lot of Gene Wolfe. They even have a few things about Gene Wolfe. What's Operation Ares like? Anyone read it?
I should avoid Amazon. It is a bad place.
4. http://artsweb.bham.ac.uk/jlaidlow/ultan/botns.htm :
Algis Budrys was expressing a growing scepticism as the tetralogy saw print. Whilst recognising that the publication of The Book of the New Sun was a 'seminal event' in the history of science fiction, Budrys gave voice to his growing suspicion that the narrative might not be as straightforward as it first appeared:
I am in the presence of a practitioner whose moves I cannot follow; I see only the same illusions that are seen by those outside the guild [of writers]. I know the cards are up the sleeves somewhere, but there are clearly extra arms to this person.
Lets say that one more time : the narrative might not be as straightforward as it first appeared. Are we talking about the same book here?
5. I shouldn't laugh.
And look at what he was listening to while he typed it . . .
I've been feeling a bit low at points today. It's been a long six years, and in one or two ways I'm pleased with what I've done with them. In others, though, they've been a total write-off. Still, what's done is done.
