Tuesday night, Wednesday morning.
Mar. 19th, 2003 05:37 amI'm feeling much better today.
The Calling last night was quiet. Too quiet. I reckon we've dropped a small number of tenners on that one.
5691kb was up first, with a set consisting mostly of covers, some very odd. Second was Fross, who I hadn't seen for a very long time. He is, of course, as one with the bleep, and his set was undisappointing accordingly. I was on last, and . . . well, as usual, I'm not very happy with it. When I get out of this town I will almost certainly hang up my headphones for a while, or perhaps permanently. For a time it was fun being involved with a dedicated Goth club, but after a good patch it's getting harder to find new goth (or goth-friendly) stuff that I really like. I felt roughly this way about the G**h scene about ten or so years ago, and so I stopped hanging around the fringes of it for a while. Maybe it's time to do that again.
Anyway. The inevitable setlist.
Joy Division - She's Lost Control (album version)
The Cure - Lullaby
Garbage - Sleep Together (not actually intentional, that)
The Cramps - Can Your Pussy Do The Dog (points to Jo for dancing - no points to the masses who don't seem to know it)
Shriekback - Nemesis (mind you, it looked for a while like nobody was going to dance to this either)
NiN - Closer (R)
Skinny Puppy - Smothered Hope
Neon Judgement - Chinese Black
Johnny Cash - Personal Jesus (R)
Tsjuber - Demonic Possession (R)
Killing Miranda - Discotheque Necronomicon
NMA - Innocence
The Clash - London Calling
Covenant - Dead Stars (r)
Wolfsheim - Once Every Five Minutes Or So (R)
A Flock Of Sealions - Wishing
Blondie - Atomic
The Horatii - Darrel and Alicia
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Straight To You
I played some Idlewild as well, and maybe one or two others, but I didn't note them down properly at the time and now I can't remember.
Addendum : I've just seen evidence that whatever infection I had yesterday affected my liver function. If you can't guess how I know this, then you almost certainly wouldn't be happier if you found out.

And quite possibly tracked down and dragged back.

Date: 2003-03-19 06:40 am (UTC)I was standing near the bar doing the Twist, but I couldn't bring myself completely publically humiliate myself by displaying my 50s moves on the dancefloor.

Date: 2003-03-20 04:44 am (UTC)(1) I have plenty of subjective proof that I exist, but no objective proof.
(2) There are interesting creatures that live in the frequency domain and use time like we use pitch on their hi-fi equivalents ("Turn the jurassic up a bit, Zorg")
(3) There are equally interesting creatures that follow a different curve to us through space-time and consequently live in the same space as us but pass through time in a different order.
(4) There are lots of really large - and we believe red - diaphonous objects floating through the atmosphere at the moment. However, as they are transparent to all the matter on Earth, we cannot affect them, nor they us. Consequently we stop noticing them at the age of about 6 months as they are completely irrelevant to us.
(5) The beer at the Pear Tree goes straight to your head on a sunny day.

Date: 2003-03-19 07:21 am (UTC)It's Tsjuder, but I'd like to stress that it wasn't me that requested this :-) Somewhat bizarrely, Tim's had this played at the last WUS and Calling, and I still haven't got round to buying it. Odd.
Dodgy DJs
Date: 2003-03-19 07:46 am (UTC)Last weekend was quite good. I was thoroughly Glen-d and Andrew Wilson-d, Lara + Seth made people limp and certain folk glared at each other all night so it was very Gigantor. All we needed was a bit of Zotz...
see you soon,
x

Date: 2003-03-20 01:36 am (UTC)I think a lot of people go through phases like that (I certainly do). I find staying power is better if you go out to a number of different clubs rather than the same one or two every month, although occasionally that doesn't work either... that's when I go off to things like psytrance nights or start contemplating attendance at places I wouldn't normally go to e.g. the local Smiths Disco, or think more about gigs/festivals than clubbing.
p.s. hope you're better now in time for the gig.
