It's great having the house to myself. I can be as curmudgeonly as I like.

It was at least vaguely fun when there were three of us in the house. But there's just me and I can't be bothered. Besides which, I've been asleep. What's with all this trick-or-treat nonsense, anyway? If you're in with those Spirits, could you get Past to have a word with Present and Future about doing some proper Guising instead?

That's a good point actually. There was none of this blackmail nonsense when I was a kid, if you wanted a treat, you did a party piece - you didn't threaten to throw eggs at someone's house.

Not as much as I do. Still, I was talking to a couple of people here who laid in sweets, put ballons up, got all ready and . . . nobody came. Poor sods are going to have to eat all those lollipops themselves. My heart bleeds for them, it really does.

Personally I'm answering the door in my wolf outfit. So far I've had two out of three expeditions of small people drop their sweets all over my drive, apparently in abject fear. I didn't even have to growl *grin*

I did give them chocolate afterwards though... the amount of it I have in my house, I don't see any reason not to share :)

we can't do that; last year we actually were out but, as is our custom, left the hall light on so it sort of looks like someone's home, and they egged the house.

I don't care about the local urchins egging the house. I care about them egging me. I'm staying late at work in the hope that they'll all have gone to bed before I have to wend my across the seedy council estate on which I live.

I've always found that heating up coins in the oven for a few hours does the trick nicely :-)
