Carriers.

WRT last night's carrier discussion . . .

The Royal Navy's current carriers are dinky little things - 19 000 tonnes fully loaded. HMS Ocean tips the scales at 22 000 tonnes, which I think makes it the navy's largest current vessel. The next generation of carriers are apparently going to displace about 40 000 tonnes - very significantly larger, although not a patch on the big tankers and bulk carriers. Interestingly, according to a post from yesterday that I unfortunately can't link to, this is about the biggest that will fit through the Panama Canal. I wonder if this was a factor in writing the spec?

Actually, the first bit is more amusing than annoying, even though it is a little sinister :

Dubya's found another nation to get annoyed with for impeding the War Against Terror® (and if you can't be bothered going for the whole article -the clue's in the link).

The annoying bit concerns the death penalty. You don't necessarily want to read it )

One thing that was mentioned at the party - by [livejournal.com profile] zoo_music_girl (thanks) - was that there's been a Stooges reunion gig. There are links to some pictures from here.
The lineup was Iggy, the Asheton brothers, and Mike Watt (of the Minutemen and fIREHOSE).

The bottom section of this page may be of some interest to a certain Mr Crowley.

Something I haven't dug out of the record collection in a while. I've really liked this song right since it came out, partly because by any sane standard it's bloody awful - but then The Fall have always had a knack of doing great songs that are terrible by conventional standards. This is, to be honest, a very minor Fall work, but it's always appealed to me for very obvious reasons.

The Fall - Edinburgh Man (from the LP Shift-work)

Addendum:
Actually, "The War Against Intelligence" is pretty fantastic too.
