Sunday to Thursday.
Oct. 24th, 2002 10:32 pmSunday was, as expected, quiet. I finished the Brookmyre, which is good and I recommend it, and then failed to get much tidying done. Monday was work, which was unremarkable - take it as read that work this week was unremarkable. I messed about too much but still got some stuff done. It finshed early that day, though, because
original_aj called at noon to say that he,
nickys and the kids were in town. I quickly arranged an afternoon off, finished a couple of odds and ends and went into town to see them. We met by the Jesus Green footbridge and moved our respective vehicles along to spaces closer to Silver Street, then crossed the river and went to look at Kings Parade. After a quick refreshment stop at the Rainbow Bistro we popped in to see Kings College Chapel, the only bit of town I'm unhesitatingly in favour of. It was, as before, stunning. After a good while wandering around gawping the kids had had enough so we came back to the bombsite I keep all my things in. Cups of tea followed, and shortly after that takeaway food (Indian, as the Chinese place turned out to be closed on Mondays). Eventually Shrek was watched, which turned out to be very good indeed, and then the kids went to bed and the rest of us sat around and chatted.
Tuesday was work, and afterwards I sat about and tried to get a few things done. I had been meaning to go to WUS (Andy Cairns having a set being a good excuse to put my head round the door again) but I'd just agreed to be busy on Wednesday and tonight, so suddenly I had more stuff to do than would let me. It's a shame - it sounds like it was a good evening.
Wednesday I went straight from work over towards West Stow, to a reconstructed Saxon village that AJ, Nicky and the kids are staying in this week. It was an amazingly clear night, and a lovely drive through the forest, disturbing the peace with revving noises. The rebuilt section of the village is small - only about half-a-dozen buildings - but very interesting. I spent about three hours there chatting, looking at things and listening to the transport planes going into Mildenhall and Lakenheath every ten minutes. Anyone would think there was a crisis on.
This evening I went to help Erik shift some old computer kit shed from his work - a few old disk boxes and an antediluvian PC. He gave me an external SCSI box! I was pleased! I am truly the saddest and most pathetic man alive. It is pretty nifty, though.
