Yes, it's been a colossal waste of everyone's time, but that's just as much the fault of the advocates of hunting as the opponents. They could have grimaced and accepted the inevitable, but they chose not to so it took a little longer. And now we get the edifying spectacle of finding out how many of the people complaining about government dictatorship have previously complained that they were ignoring their election promises.

Date: 2004-09-15 12:11 pm (UTC)I was trawling someone else's friends list today (looking for pictures of Fiona at a wedding she was at on Saturday - I'm continually boggled by the idea of her wearing a fancy hat) and someone was asking what it would be like if the mounted police actually did get stuck in.
"Like the Royalist right flank at Naseby" came the reply.
I used to drive across Naseby field occasionally. It's quite near Cambridge. One of my regrets is not visiting Cromwell's house when I lived near it.
