356 to 166, and unlikely to get nobbled by the Lords this time. You can hear the whining all the way up here, though - it's amazing how the impact of the phrase "democratic deficit" disappears once you let a few aristos vote each other back into office.

Yes, it's been a colossal waste of everyone's time, but that's just as much the fault of the advocates of hunting as the opponents. They could have grimaced and accepted the inevitable, but they chose not to so it took a little longer. And now we get the edifying spectacle of finding out how many of the people complaining about government dictatorship have previously complained that they were ignoring their election promises.

According to a chap on one of my mailing lists Sky news had footage of the police getting stuck into the pro-hunt protestors with truncheons & riot shields. He suggested that the police should run them until they're exhausted then rip them apart! At least it's not always lefty protestors that get a doing....

It got a bit fraught, yes. Apparently the mounted police were waiting in the wings.

I was trawling someone else's friends list today (looking for pictures of Fiona at a wedding she was at on Saturday - I'm continually boggled by the idea of her wearing a fancy hat) and someone was asking what it would be like if the mounted police actually did get stuck in.

"Like the Royalist right flank at Naseby" came the reply.

I used to drive across Naseby field occasionally. It's quite near Cambridge. One of my regrets is not visiting Cromwell's house when I lived near it.
