Argh. This explains the biz with the 'get well' phonecall at the RHCP gig (didn't hear it myhself, but several punters were asking about it "'cos he died a few years ago, right?".
Ah - it's mentioned in the Torygraph review of the RHCP gig - kinda, sorta:
Only guitarist John Frusciante made any attempt to communicate, and that was to ask the crowd to greet his friend Johnny Ramone on his mobile. Five minutes later, they were still chatting. Don't mind us, guys.
And Lynsey Hanley seems to be a professional music journo and all....
FYI, the story on the Rolling Stone site is here but there's no mention of this on the official Ramones site http://www.ramones.com and nothing was mentioned in an interview with Johnny published on the Washington Times site in March. Needless to say, I have put a story up on Rocknerd about this curiousness.
Hopefully, it's a case of "I ain't dead yet" as Granny Weatherwax would put it.
(random celebrity connection: I got asked to arrange a tour for him and a few other groups last year, but his management wouldn't pay in advance, so I told them I wasn't taking a bet on making enough money on the concerts to cover it all.)
