Apparently (according to the Grauniad, anyway) a US congressional investigation has revealed that "inventory management in the army was so weak it had lost track of 56 airplanes, 32 tanks and 36 missile launchers."

So, somebody out there has those 32 tanks.

Can I have one, please?

I'd imagine the tanks are either

a) sitting rusting at the back of a warehouse in the mid-west, or

b) were never delivered, but the army was invoiced for them regardless.

I suspect b might be the more likely of the two.

Old Soviet tanks are quite cheap. There are two T-34s near me, one each side of the Old Kent Road. One's even painted pink...

I have pictures of that from when I was last down there working. It seemed so incongruous having a little pink tank sitting in a patch of weeds for no readily apparent reason.

What pisses me off so bad about that kind of thing is that I for one am extremely good at counting and documenting widgets--but I'm not allowed in the military due to my asthma. That poster of Uncle Sam is pointing at me and saying "I don't want you!"
