Late Sunday night. It's been a good weekend. [livejournal.com profile] mrph's been over since Friday, so he turned up in the pub on Friday, and in the pub on Saturday, then today he was in . . . the pub. The occasion was, of course, the Chaos Engine/Swarf/Psychophile gig at the Boat Race, organised on behalf of the local Rocksoc by [livejournal.com profile] eviltwinemma, to whom much kudos.

It was a highly excellent concert. I can't stress this strongly enough. All three bands were on top form, even though Psychophile's possibly-temporary possibly-permanent (I'm not sure) new keyboard player had broken his arm two days earlier - and was therefore sporting a very stylish PVC sling. I liked Swarf more than when I've seen them before. I've never quite seen why people rave about them (I've always found them tight, tuneful but curiously unmemorable) but I think perhaps I'm starting to see the point. I even bought one of their records. And the Chaos Engine were (as usual) big, bold, loud, hammering and terrific. I bobbed awkwardly at the front, drank too much and talked shite at people on the way home.

Friday was the final office move at work. This has been in the offing (but delayed due to repeated floods) for well over a year, and wasn't finally very painful. Whether it stays that way remains to be seen.

I had a dream about my bastard ex the other night. She'd moved into a house around the corner and I was pointing out to her where I wait for the bus in the morning. It was all curiously relaxed and matter-of-fact. Still, if I'd dreamed I was going after her with an axe, I'd be a little perturbed by that too. Maybe it's just as well.

Ho Hum. Sir William Bragg and his ensemble are in town tomorrow. Should be good. I haven't seen him in about seven or eight years, at least. The new album had arrived, but the postie shoved it under the back gate rather than leave it in the open by the front door. If he'd left a note saying that it was there. then I would have found it in less than 48 hours and it woulnd't have gotten wet. Still, it dried out fine. Sounds good, as well. From the reviews, I was expecting to be a little disappointed, but I'm not. Maybe I just have a higher tolerance of ranting socialist songwriters than the average.

Oi!

You make it sound like I spent the entire weekend in the KSR! Just what kind of reprobate do you think I am? :-)

More seriously, cheers muchly for coffee, company and interesting music. It was a fun weekend, and the Firewater CD is now on my "must buy one of these days" list. As is the HMHB "Editor's Recommendation" CD...

Thank you, I rest my case.

See - I'm not just a beer obsessed layabout! I like music, too. :)

Donnla here. Haven't got an account here coz I'm too mean to pay for one, I'm on another diary site already. So I missed another top gig. Ascension was fun here though. Libitaina are playing the Teviot this coming weekend so I will finally get to see them... I've managed to miss ALL their gigs around Cam.

Well if you do want an account, just say and one of us can give you a code for a free one - just so you can keep a friends list, or something.
And then, after a while, you'll post. Just once. Not because you're going to start using the site, oh no. And then you'll post again. And again. And before you know it, you'll be assimilated, wondering if 5 posts/day is too many, and you'll have a permanently open client window on your desktop. And then it'll be too late.

Or I could just be projecting here.

No, that sounds about right. :-)

I've lured various Coventry people that way, and (more generally) it's amazing how many long and busy journals start with a small post saying "I'm not going to write anything here, I've only signed up so I can see what my friends are doing". Snerk.

Was whats-her-name playing bass for CE? Lee wasn't sure if she was coming back last time I spoke to him (yegads, must've been ages ago - maybe even that nightmare evening when I travelled all the way to Chelmsford to see 'em, only to have to miss 'em to get the last train back to the smoke).
