I knew exactly one person there apart from [livejournal.com profile] taoist_goth, so it wan't exactly socially hectic. I kept myself busy worrying about what to play and how people were going to react, though, so I wasn't bored. I'm very tempted to rig up a toilet roll for people to tear off request slips at the next Calling.

The turntable kindly lent me by [livejournal.com profile] dennyd provided sterling service, and I'm very grateful. I seem to have somebody's CD of "Off the bone" by the Cramps. As I already have it as a proper record, I don't need it - I assume it's somebody who's done a Calling set recently. Any ideas?

Dark Trixx is just by Alencon Link, which is where a lot of civil service recruitment used to be/is based. Ten or so years ago, when I was spending reasonable periods of time rotting on the dole (rather than in the fens) this was an address I used a couple of times. It feels very odd to just happen past a place that used to seem so remote.

Oh yes. The eighties. It were great. Unemployment . . . cruise missiles . . . Go West and Rick Astley on Top Of The Pops . . .

Billy Bragg had some interesting comments on Eighties Discos and "reliving the Thatcher years" that I may have summaried in an earlier entry. As I recall, it degenerated into a discussion of Neubauten, and of metalbashing industrial bands in general (he approves, incidentally).

Throwing Muses minus 4 days and counting.

~shakes head~ You're just...so great. I'm so glad to know you.
~hugs~

And yes, I concede the point about Go West and Rick Astley, of course.

Yes, I'm aware that was slightly random, but you know I don't drink so it wasn't alcohol-induced, so just assume I mean it and it was sparked by some combination of your setlist, your comments about Rick Astley, and the rest of your post, k?
I refuse to apologise for saying nice things, damn it.

~smile~ And my comment before sounded somewhat more abrupt than I intended it to; sorry.
I sort of have this reputation for throwing unexpected compliments and the like at people, but it's generally considered a good thing.
And I just haven't told you enough how great you are. Usually just too shy or what-have-you.

~s~ I don't know many people who are good at handling compliments, and the ones I do know are terribly terribly tiresome - telling someone they're lovely and getting a response of "Mmm." is really not ideal.

I shall try to remember to throw them at you when you're sitting down. :)

>Red Guitars - Good technology

I've got one of their singles, "America and Me". Haven't listened to it in ages.

>Bad Seeds - Bring it on

That must be one of the newer ones?

The singer-songwriter, Jerry Kidd, left the rest of the band. They continued using the name, and "America And Me" was their first single, on Virgin. Nothing amazing, but not too bad.

Red Guitars - Good technology

Fine stuff! The guitar solo still makes me shiver, even [mumble] years later.

[livejournal.com profile] quercus once drunkenly alleged he had them play at a party when he was Being A Student.

That would work, or I'll be at the Calling on Tuesday, I could take it home from there. Whichever is easiest for you is fine by me.
