I drove over to Oxford last night with Sven and Thormund to go to Intrusion. I've been once before, and it was much the same (except more sober). I finally met Alex Page, who seems to pretending that his name is Dave at the moment. That's fine, though. I used to pretend my name was Dave too, once. He was looking for
grahamb, who was actually there but I think they still managed to avoid each other. billboard_liz brought him over and introduced him, as apparently he said he was looking for a Graham from Cambridge, as if any Graham was as good as any other (which may be true, now that I think about it). Various other people were there - an Ed (now owns an angsty-looking picture of himself), a Natalie, a DT, a Jess and a few others. Nice night. The drive back at two AM was interesting. Thank God for Irn Bru.

Date: 2003-03-12 03:32 am (UTC)I feel all nostalgic now. I've been meaning to get to Intrusion at some point as well. Like you, I've only been once before, but it was pretty good. It didn't exist when I lived in those parts, in fact there were no goth nights at all. We had to make do with the "goth half hour" at the Switch.

Sounds dreadful. Still, at least you'd know where all the goths were for half an hour. Disgraceful creatures.

Date: 2003-03-12 04:34 am (UTC)Actually a lot of them didn't bother. Thus it gradually got whittled down to "goth fifteen minutes", then ten...
Disgraceful creatures.
Not any more... they've all cut their hair short now and started wearing grey. Some of them have even progressed to beige. When I went to Intrusion, there was nobody there that I recognised (except the girl I went with, of course!)

Dearie me. The things you see when you don't have your gun.

Date: 2003-03-13 04:30 am (UTC)I lived in Oxford from '92 to '95 when I was an undergrad there. I'm pretty sure that Disturbance was quite a while after that...
Are you the same /mel/ wot posts to UPG, BTW?

Date: 2003-03-13 05:34 am (UTC)Yes, 'fraid so, the same /mel/.

Date: 2003-03-13 05:48 am (UTC)I've no idea... I never went to either.
Yes, 'fraid so, the same /mel/.
I suppose it didn't take too much of a leap of logic to work that one out! Although there do seem to be quite a few mel's around... Anyway, it's nice to "meet" you. I'm the person who posts under the unimaginitive handle of "Joanna Moy" (well, you know, it _is_ my name) -- atheistic Dan Dennett reader.

Date: 2003-03-13 06:01 am (UTC)There are a couple of other Mels, though they're female. The only other bloke I knew of married Scary Lady Sarah and disappeared off Stateside. (I'm sure there was a mix-up there somewhere and it was supposed to be me).

There's another male one in Newcastle... calls himself Legion on UPG, runs the Requiem nights.

Oh well, better luck next time! ;-)

I should have really asked Ale^H^H^HDave why he did, though. It didn't occur to me at the time.
