"By the end of 2004 the world had put one trillion US dollars into weapons. We have to ask how much the world has put aside for this disaster in Pakistan"

[Tayyip Erdogan, Prime Minister of Turkey, 21-10-05]

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children . . . This is not a way of life at all, in any true sense. Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging from a cross of iron."

[Dwight D Eisenhower, 16-04-53]

Friday. Hoose. AJ et various al were there, and I spent a while trying to remember what I could about pupation and imaginal disks. This was good.

On Saturday Ed dropped round for a bit - a worried man - and then I wandered around a few shops and picked up a couple of tickets and a couple of records, including something by Shooting at Unarmed Men, which hopefully I'll be raving about as soon as I've listened to it.

Sunday started with a walk down to Leith to make torchballs, then a lift back up to have a bite in the City Café and then a walkthrough in the cold and rain. Which was interesting and exposed a couple of things we can work on. After that was Neon, which was fun. Finn gave me her hour, after I turned up slightly late (good of you - thanks) and I played the usual nonsense. Ed wanted me to go and do something terribly important at the end of it, but he wouldn't say what, so I didn't.
