As I've said before, Richard Perle ("Richard Perle is chairman of the defence policy board, an advisory panel to the Pentagon.") is a man so strange and scary that even Jack Straw hates him.

Should anyone still doubt that the hawks within the Republican party seek to end restrictions on US ability to impose its will on world affairs :
As we sift the debris, it will be important to preserve, the better to understand, the intellectual wreckage of the liberal conceit of safety through international law administered by international institutions.

This is taken from the Guardian, who have published an extract
from a longer article published in the The Spectator.

I must say that the article reads almost reasonably until you remember that Perle himself was instrumental in making sure that the world's most powerful nation was never willing to fully support the UN. Come the revolution . . .

While looking for the Spectator or a copy of the longer version of that article, I happened across a couple of other articles concerning Mr Perle. It seems that there is currently a slight dispute brewing concerning an article in the new Yorker which alleged that there is the appearance of some conflict of interest in the fact that Perle is both an official US government advisor on security matters, and a part-owner of a company involved in international security matters. Apparently there's some code stating that government officials shouldn't put themselves in this situation, but presumably this isn't the sort of situation it covers.

Anyway, this is the good bit :

He's suing. He (a US-resident US citizen) is planning to sue the New Yorker (a US publication) in London, on the grounds that any US court would spend more time laughing than considering the case's merits. There's an article here (on Slate) covering it, which has a link to the original article. An earlier Slate article describes Perle as a grandstanding pantywaist (anyone with serious google karma care to stick a few copies of that link around?).

Also, of course Perle is involved with a Cambridge software company, Autonomy. I wonder how loooooooooooooooooooooooong their spoon is?
