Mar. 7th, 2002 12:25 amWhen I was driving in to work yesterday, there were (unless I'm very mistaken) a pair of cock pheasants facing off by the roadside. The world's smallest lek, perhaps? And later I saw one of the grey herons that nest nearby, fishing in the lake. So I suppose it must be spring.
And it was the Calling last night, of course, and Patrick's last before absconding to UMIST. It went very well overall. There was one odd point - they didn't open until enough after nine that a bunch of us sloped off for a quiet pint first, which seems a bit counterproductive (don't they know the word Showtime?) - and one concerning point : someone may have had her drink spiked. Apart from having a truly shitty finish to the evening, she didn't look to have come to any harm, but still . . .
And it would happen the evening I didn't have the car with me.
This evening, I saw John Sulston on TV, being very very concise indeed. I had in fact been told that he was on right at the end, so I didn't have to sit all the way through what looked like a truly dreadful piece of television. I could probably have mentioned this earlier, but I got persuaded away from my terminal (and from work, in fact) to drive back to town so my boss could get to a florist. I'd run out of productive work to do by then anyway.
