. . . if a job description asks for a recent graduate, someone who graduated ten years ago would be pushing it a little, yes?

In my experience application forms generally take about three hours to do a worthwhile job on and drain your soul away while doing it!
In this instance it may still be worth it, but the cost is non-negligible...
