No, it really is. I was working on swifts in oxford a while ago, & there was someone trying to do a similar thing using the louse-flies (simliar to sheep-keds - or flat, wingless bluebottles) that live in their nests. Don't think that one worked out though...

It's interesting and links to something I recall reading in New Scientist recently. However, would they care to proffer an explaination why such stories make you instinctively itch?
