What sort of nation could seriously elect this administration and over a year later not have collectively realised that they're a crowd of maniacs headed by a buffoon?

And who would pull this stunt close to an election without thinking the words "sympathy vote"? They guy strikes me as a steaming turd, but as well as being obviously wrong, killing him's seriously unwise. It worked for the Israeli extreme right, of course, but as far as I can remember it doesn't usually have the desired effect.

When I read about Bush and his administration, I feel like I'm ready the start of a horrific Doomsday cold-war era sci-fi that ends in WWIII and a nuclear holocaust.

I suspect the US will have a massive strop when Europe eventually withdraws from the UN convention on drugs, as I expect it will in some shape or form within the next couple of decades. With legalised/decriminalised drugs all over Europe, the US War on (some) Drugs will be a lost cause. They already have a go at the Dutch about pot (tho' were strangely quiet when Portugal decriminalised all drugs).

I hadn't thought about that, but it does look like its headed that way. Still, li'l Shrub'll have undermined the international treaty regime so far by then that even he'll have no business objecting.
