I had some passport photos taken yesterday, in a photo booth in the KBU, as I need one for my new staff card. They all came out a bit ugly, but that's probably an advantage. but which of the four should I use? I can't be bothered doing a poll, but any comments will be gratefully considered. It's about a 100k jpeg, and physically quite large too, but is almost certainly worksafe, unless of course your work has minimum aesthetic criteria for downloads.

My God you look miserable! I think you look slightly less psychotic in the first one, but it's a tough call.

That just suggests that you are more comfortable with looking psychotic, doesn't it? It wouldn't surprise me if it is true. I can't think of anything more satisfying than have people shy away from you as soon as you show them some ID. :)

Police cautioned the public on no account to approach the escapee as, though unarmed, he was described as 'extremely dangerous'... ;-p

I'd go for the bottom one if I were you. It's a bit brighter than the others and you look less San Quentin.

Scare them into submission, you think? Ah, right, I hadn't realised.

In that case it's between the middle two. There's something a bit scarier about your eyes in the second one. They're just very slightly more open and it's like staring into the depths of a truly deranged psyche. Eyes as the windows of the mind and all that. Have you seen those pictures of Syd Barrett just when he was just on the verge of going really nuts? A bit like that. :-)

I've no idea what reaction you're actually going for, but I'd say go with the second one - there's just a touch more openness about your eyes in that one that suggests 'miserable bugger' rather than 'secretly plotting to kill us all'.

Of course, if you want the latter rather than the former, I think the first one wins.

I thought you looked marginally less axe-murdererish in the fourth one, but that might ahve been because I was starting to expect the expression on your face by then! Looking at them closely I can barely see any difference..

I'd go for the last one, but it's a tough call.

Whoah! Nice to see people are keeping up the tradition of hideous passport photos :)

Mine is slightly worse if that's any consolation :)

OK, having done that I would like to change my vote to 4.

And next time you need a passport photo done I'm coming with you.

maybe drag him to one of the chemists that do them or a photographers, usually (my last batch excluded) you look slightly human in them.

I like the photo booths that preview them. Although my last set still weren't all that wonderful.

This is still my favourite passport photo of all time. Shame I don't look like it anymore!

personally i think it is a conspiracy so that the folk checking your passport can have a good laugh...

Subtle differences in your eyes mean that in the first one you look likely to kill someone at any moment, the second makes you look like you want a hug, the third is similar to the second except you look a bit more mental and in the fourth you just look downright miserable.

I say go for the third...

I think I like the 2nd one best. The lighter ones make you look quite grey I think.

Mind you they are much of a muchness - so any one would be suitable scary :)

Perhaps you could put them into an animated GIF as an icon, so that we can spot the differences more easily? ;-)

i think my favourite is the puppy dawg. stick that in your passport and it'll melt the heart of even the sternest customs official. he might even give you a nice lollipop...
