. . . Mark and Lard, departed from Radio One after more than ten years. I remember listening to the first Out On Blue Six on a Monday evening a long, long time ago with Lara, and being quite entranced.

Their last show can be streamed from http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/rpms/r1marklard.rpm, featuring nothing off the current Radio One playlist, but several very odd tributes, including something very strange (about four minutes in) from Dave Bowie (of "Dave Bowie and the Dave Bowie band", of course). Copy that URL into your Real client or go via the BBC's page on the subject. This may be a time-limited offer. Other methods of finding the show may exist.

It's been a fun week. DD on Tuesday, as previously mentioned. Thursday was the pub (as usual, but for longer this time). Friday was the pub again, but the Southsider this time for the first time in ages. I was summoned by Anonymouseth on [livejournal.com profile] sibelian's behalf, and Ed was there also. Addlestones was drunk, resulting (I am told) in a certain amount of breakage affecting one of those present the next day. And it wasn't me. Saturday was mostly quiet. My folks came round with Mervin, briefly, and very late on I went for a swift pint or two (including one of guess-what?) with [livejournal.com profile] bootpunk in the Auld Hoose.

Sunday, of course, was a trip out to the climbing wall with Lara, Seth, Duncan Airburst, Alex^2 (black and red), Marianne and Iain Third, Helen, and at least one other (correction: two others), which was much fun. I've been promised a great deal of breakage of my own for tomorrow, particularly covering my arms, legs and shoulders. We'll see. I feel OK so far (following an unnecessarily prolonged and unusually hot bath). We'll see.

Update: I still feel OK, but I can't sleep.

Further update: Of all the tributes, not one was from Mark E Smith congratulating or commiserating with his old guitarist. I bet you're all as surprised as I am.

It was never the same once they left the Graveyard Shift ...

I'll miss Mark and Lard...I enjoyed their humour and the way they managed to fit in a few songs not on the official playlist.

I'll still have to listen to Radio 1 at work, unless I can find Radio 2 on the wireless. Local radio is too dire!

Thanks

I've been trying to remember all weekend the name of "Out on Blue Six".
I'm sure I heard their GMR show too, but I don't remember going to Manchester so perhaps I'm imagining things.

"Out on Blue Six" was a classic.

The guide to living in a bedsit/rented accommodation was hilarious, especially the episode of coming home and being Not Drunk.

Ah yes. Mark E Smith is so well renowned for his genial nature and love for his former bandmates.
