There are early evening showing of Hidden Fortress at the Filmhouse tomorrow and Thursday, I believe. Anyone local fancy it?

This is, of course, another Kurosawa film that turned out quite influential - The Seven Samurai got remade as the Magnificent Seven (and, effectively, as Battle Beyond the Stars), Yojimbo got remade as A Fistfull of Dollars (and as Last Man Standing), and Hidden Fortress got remade as some little SF flick called Star Wars.

Well, OK, maybe that's pushing it a bit far, but Lucas did fich bits of the plot and a couple of characters from it.

So . . . anyone?

star wars follows HF pretty closely in terms of things that happen and visually for most of the plot until the attack on the death star. the farmers, the princess, and the soldier are pretty consistent with the droids, leia and han. the main difference is luke's adventure. of course the wipes are signature kurosawa!
