I can't make updates to this of any more than a few lines (as you can probably tell by the obviously incomplete last post). Anyone any ideas?

What client are you using? Or just the webgui? I have found the webgui to be pretty robust, so maybe that's a stopgap solution...

stonehan has the same problem. She gets it with both IE and Mozilla, on a Sony Vaio laptop running W2K, with an NTL broadband connection. With IE the failure you get is "cannot find server", with Mozilla clicking on post does nothing. She has the same problem at other sites (particularly hotmail). I am completely baffled by it.

Do you have anything in common with that setup?

I'm using the web interface with Opera (under Linux), and LogJam 3.01 . They both have the same apparent problem, although the error report differs slightly. Opera says "Connection closed by remote server" and LogJam says "Empty reply from server". This has been since Wednesday, at least, but not longer than since Monday. I may try using the web clientfrom work.
There aren't any weird characters - from cutting back progressively, it does just seem to be length-dependent.

I've got NTL in common with that setup . . . maybe there is a link with their infamous Evil Proxy Servers. Come to think of it, a friend asked me the other day whether I'd been having any problems posting forms. He mailed me at work, so I'll check what he said tomorrow.

How do the (non-web) clients work? Would they go through an overzealous and undercompetent proxy web server if such a thing existed?

I've been using logjam through NTL for several months with no problems. And I'm pretty sure the web client has worked with Mozilla (0.9.9) though the same connection.

I'll mail James - he's already evaded their proxies, which solved his problems, so he may have useful insight.

The non-web clients still talk HTTP (I looked briefly into writing one), so they would still use a "transparent" proxy. Yep, bet it's that. Any info you have on disabling it will be gratefully passed onto Hannah.

James said he'd been having problems with eBay, so he was going through an independent proxy which used a nonstandard port on his side so the NTL proxy wouldn't notice.

This is probably not as helpful as it might be, but I'll speak to James tomorrow and see what gives. I could maybe give NTL a ring and seek enlightenment from them, but it's difficult to say whether it'd be a good use of time or just a waste. I'll stick any result up here, anyway.
