I don't know what to say. This article in today's Observer reminds me that mutual incomprehensibility is something we're condemned to the moment we're born. And then there's this one, about and featuring a few recent words from Roger (aka "Syd") Barrett. If you'd bought the print edition, you'd have a recent picture. And there are two articles on the current geopolitical imbroglio, this one about Dubya stating that war is inevitable (although other sources say that a compromise is still possible), and this one about the tension over which countries' oil companies will have drilling rights in a postwar Iraq.

That oil article is absolutely shocking. I'd accepted the grim reality that Bush wants the oil from Iraq, but now he even wants to take it from UN-member countries who have already paid millions in contracts with Iraq too! it's astonishing.

That kissing article was ridiculous though - what a pathetically uptight and sexually repressed reporter. And her friends sound equally ridiculous - that girl who gets queebed out at the thought of using her tongue when she kisses her boyfriend? What astonishingly prepubescent people.

grownups don't snog? since when?

That whole article smacks of a 'over-40s don't have SEX! Ewwwww!' mentality. Frankly, I hope to be snogging til my false teeth fall out.

Well, I'm sure most people would consider the sort of things that thee & me and Paul C et al get up to to be considerably odd. Most of our circle aren't too polite to mention it - they just are less likely to see anything odd. Btw, I'm not a big time kisser either - but given where my tongue tends to get to when I'm getting friendly with someone, that may not be a bad thing.

Re Iraq:

All this talk of regime change seems to be assuming that the Iraqi people will decide that they want a Western-style capitalist governemt (we *are* going to give them a choice, aren't we?) Be a bit of a let down (for certain people anyway) if they decided that what they really wanted was a Muslim Theocracy or a Socialist state, and thus they were only going to have nationalised oil companies. Might test the limits of the support for post-regime change democracy.

I'm not sure she wants anyone over 30 having sex either, her thirty something pals she writes so approvingly of sound like they're having incredibly boring sex lives. I know I should be more concerned with the other articles but I'm still boggling over that one.

I did go out with someone once who wasn't big on proper snogging with tongues. Apart from being great in its own right, I think you can tell a lot about what someone is like in bed from how they snog.

I too hope to be snogging till my false teeth fall out.

*Grin* - you are so fair and tolerant! I have to giggle at how fair-and-respecting-other-people's-cultural-ways I am UNTIL it involves reserved thirty-something Britons with mortgages. I must go and read anthropological notes on respecting alternative lifestyles, even when those alternatives mean 2.54 children and a stationwagon. (Eeeeew.)

I can't find that post you made about 80s music recently - at least, not in your LJ. Was it a reply to someone else?

You do indeed have a station wagon, and you are SO not boring! You're in fact the absolute antithesis of boring, being consistently and constantly interesting. Also, instead of packing the station wagon with children's muddy soccer-league gear, you pack it with incredibly obscure vinyl.

T'was indeed. I was a bit taken aback watching Simple Minds performing Catwalk on VH1 Oldies last night, and realising that that was almost fully 20 years ago. A bit devastating to think about how little I've actually gotten done in those 20 years - hope the next will be better, but not sure about that.

I think I'm thinking more along the lines of the footprint I'd be leaving if I were to leave tomorrow. But being hard on oneself is not a bad way of pushing forwards harder.
