Hello dad . . .
Jul. 24th, 2002 08:17 pmYes, it's official. The word of the week is still schadenfreude. Monday night at ten past ten I felt a sudden inexplicable pang of sadness and loss. And then I thought "Never mind, Hoogs is in jail" and I was smiling again. Last night I was in the doldrums in the middle of a Calling set, and then I thought "Never mind - it's several hours past Hoog's bedtime", and everything was rosy again.
I had no idea I had so much malice in me. I'm probably going to be happier this week than any week since . . . well, 1996 certainly, and maybe even 1994. Life is peachy.
I was hoping to play Livejournal Rashomon with you at this point, but the two posts (which, of course, deal with the same event from entertainingly different points of view) are both locked friends-only. Never mind, maybe we can all keep our eyes open for such things - let me know if you see any.
The last week's been fairly fun - the pub a few times, NMA on Friday with
darkgoblin, Calling last night, hanging around and reading the paper, trying desperately to get more projects finished this month (gradually getting somewhere with that last one). I had an appraisal last week, which basically involved me going into my bosses office and telling her that while her assessment of my work was very kind, I was more flattered than convinced. I think in most establishments, I'd have been fired long since for being too perverse to live. In theory, my floor's getting prepared for carpet-laying as we speak. In practice, of course, nothing of the sort is happening. I'm used to that by now. In theory, the carpet was going down tomorrow. In theory, the carpet is now going to go down next week. In practice, it may be anytime between now and September. Still, Hoogs and Archer are still in the pokey, so things could be worse.
Who needs carpet, anyway? Life is peachy.
I was meaning to play Sheriff Fatman at the Calling last night, but after looking it out I forgot to pack it. Next time, then. Maybe with Was (Not Was)'s most excellent "Hello Dad - I'm in Jail". Maybe I can think up a third by then and make it a topical tripletracker.
Any ideas, sports fans?
Update: Well, I haven't thought of a third record, but the rough edge has now been smashed down so I'm back on track for carpet next week sometime. Wonders will never cease. I bet Nicky and Jeff don't have decent carpet in their bedrooms.
