Yesterday's big news was that Richard Perle is still a dangerous maniac. Oh, and licencing law reform is indeed on the cards. The mirror's ready to go on the car door (with replaced reflecty bit and everything) but didn't get put on last night because it was raining. And does anyone have any ideas about getting to an airfield west of Cambridge on Sunday afternoon?

So His Holiness reckons that Italians should have more children? Well, I'd be the last to deny the value of this, but his church is hardly leading by example, is it? He did, on the other hand, also call for fewer people to be imprisoned in Italy's overcrowded jails. Do you think there's any chance he could do the same for our jails while he's at it?

I must also include this snippet I was forwarded by a friend who follows such things professionally :

An extract from the Commons debate on 13 11 02 on the Queen's Speech

13 Nov 2002 : Column 9

Mr. George Foulkes (Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley): My only sadness is
that that is one of the many achievements of our Labour Government that is
too often taken for granted. It reminds me of "Monty Python's Life of
Brian". I think that Eric Idle, the leader of the Judean People's Front-

Chris Ruane (Vale of Clwyd): People's Front of Judea.

Mr. Foulkes: No, it was a breakaway from the People's Front of Judea. I
think that Eric Idle asked, "What have the Romans ever done for us?" The
reply-I think that it was from John Cleese-was, "Well, roads, cities, a
legal system, running water, drainage, wine, and, of course, peace on the
streets." The ungrateful native responds, "Yes, but apart from roads,
cities, a legal system, running water, drainage, wine and peace on the
streets." I am sure that the Prime Minister knows how the Romans felt.
