zotz: (serious)
Foetus tomorrow, at the Scala. According to CJ, with Leechwoman supporting. It looks like I'll be all on my ownio, though, because . . . (whispers) . . . I don't actually know very many fans of JGT. Last time, two people from work (my boss and her sister) and one of my longest-standing friends (but only because I twisted his arm, it being ridiculous that they guy who first played me some Foetus had never seen them) came along, as well as the aforementiond CJ. This time, there'll just be me and whoever turns up from London. Ah well.

Wow. Just found this in the Grauniad:

Two pakistani men sentenced to be strangled, chopped up into 1000 pieces and dissolved in acid for the murders of dozens of children were found dead in a Lahore jail yesterday in an apparent suicide . . . In March last year a Lahore judge sentenced the two to be strangled, cut up and thrown into acid because that is how they disposed of up to 100 victims after sexually abusing them.

Just for the record, I think that that sentence sums up the judidical system that imposed it, and therefore says a lot about the whole country.

But of course, one of our chief allies at the moment. There've been some very interesting articles in the paper today - I mean the Guardian, of course, because that's what I read. A lot of people are starting to worry that bin-Laden might be winning the propaganda war. Much good will this quest for "justice" do us if all we and up with is the seed of the next war. The good point is the cautious backing for the action from the Organisation of the Islamic Congress, without which a great deal less would be salvageable from this whole sorry mess. The most worrying thing for me at the moment is the reappearance of Richard Perle, a Reagan-era defence and foreign-policy hawk who was so admired that he acquired the soubriquet "The Prince Of Darkness". This is a man so strange and scary that even Jack Straw hates him. One of the fundamental tenets of my life was, until recently, that nobody who hates Jack Straw can be all bad. But then Straw badmouthed Perle on the Today programme, and I was in a quandary - because for even longer it's been my view that nobody who hates Richard Perle can be all bad. I am conflicted. What am I to think? Answers, on a postcard, please, to me at the obvious address.

1) Who owns www.grauniad.com?

2) Just seen at the Grauniad's actual site, this:

At the end of the speech by Quentin Davies, the Tories' Northern Ireland spokesman, a member of the audience threw up on the conference floor. "God," said another member of the shadow cabinet, desperately looking on the bright side, "I wish we had more speakers who could get that raw emotional reaction."
