Kinda funny-lookin'
Mar. 7th, 2004 05:53 pmIt's official. I look odd.
I was at the Auld Hoose last night with CJ, Helen (Helen who used to share a flat with Angie, that is - I haven't seen her in nearly ten years) and Laura, a very longstanding friend of CJ's who's an anthropologist. Apparently I look funny, and have the wrong cheekbones for a mainland Scot. They'd be the right cheekbones if I was Japanese, Mongolian or Inuit, apparently. Or potentially Orcadian (which is obviously much more plausible). So if nothing else I got an anecdote out of the evening.
Supplemental : she mentioned being an Archers fan and hanging around on boards somewhere. Obviously I mentioned
swisstone but the alpine connection drew a blank.
Actually, of course, it was a very good evening. Addlestone's, interesting conversation, and then myself and CJ went on to Vain, where there were a few more friends I could chat to.
And in other news, there's another reworking of a Chick tract here
This week I finally read Days (thanks to
razornet and/or
vyvyan for the recommendation) and had an interview for a job helping mind a 310 and a 3100. I could do this. No problem. I haven't heard back. I'll let you know when I do, obviously. I've been streaming stuff of the Beeb's website, too. You'll Have Had Your Tea, Mitch Benn, Boothby Graffoe, Radios One and Six, that sort of thing. I'm having trouble with live365, but you can't have everything.
London the week before was a lot of fun, even though Fiona was slightly unwell. Rathaus was a lot of fun, with lots of people to talk to. On Sunday I drove back up, after picking CJ up in Walthamstow. The traffic was kind, and the trip took near-as-dammit exactly seven hours, which is exactly what I usually claim it takes.
