Two different takes linked to by news.google.co.uk concerning the "wardrobe malfunction":

White Plains Journal News : The big question: Was Jackson exposure planned?

Edmonton Journal : Bare breast not nearly as offensive as cynical American jingoism

Whoops. Somebody's not impressed. I think it was the Kid Rock song they objected to.

Liked that "Hymn to Rednecks" bit.

LMAO. Thanks for the Edmonton link. There's an assessment I can get jiggy wit.

For heaven's sake, it's just a breast. I see 'em every day. And yeah, it was the best part of that snoozalicious show. ::zzzzzzzz::

the spectacle was a 12-minute toilet flush of uninspired lip-synch performances

Well, what else did they expect? Actually it seems that the more extravagant the entry price, the less live the performance. Hey, there's a thought. Perhaps if we can persuade the promoters to rake up the admission to a ridiculous £300 per head, we could see the pleasure of Janet Jackson et al 'performing' from the afterlife?

A shame really, as the actual game was one of the best Superbowls there has been.

The latter was quite amusing, but what the hell were you doing reading the Edmonton Journal?

The odd bit is, while Kid Rock was obviously trying to be jingoistic and all, I was actually offended that the little (right) wing-nut was desecrating a flag for his costume. Time was, and not that long ago, that everyone knew that flags weren't supposed to be used for clothing. Then partway through the Reagan years (actually I suspect we could pin this precisely on the team uniforms for the USA at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics) everyone was wearing flags as clothing.

I find this particularly upsetting because I'm all for flag burning being legal as a form of protest, and yet I suspect because of that I have more respect for Old Glory than anyone who has ever wrapped hirself in it. I hesitate to ask what that portion of the halftime travesty did to my father's heart condition.

Amen. This makes three of the last five pretty entertaining, by my reckoning. Superbowl XXXVI (Patriots - Rams) was every bit as good as this, especially for New Englanders, but the best is still Superbowl XXXIV (Rams - Titans), which ended with time running out as the Titans came within a foot of tying the game and forcing it into overtime. They're almost enough to make up for the snooze-fest which was last year.

And now America, and Boston in particular, can get back to worrying about what really matters. Pitchers and catchers report to spring training in 10 days. :)
