Months ago I was prodded to do a seven-earworms meme and I still haven't, so I don't know why I'm doing new ones. Nevertheless . . .

A) Four jobs I have had in my life (other than current job):
Microscopist, Civil Servant, Cleaner, PC Troubleshooter (yes, my job title did include the word "troubleshooter". This was not as good as when my job involved all-terminator shotgun).

B.) Four movies I would watch over and over:
The Cook, the Thief, his Wife and her Lover; The Princess Bride; Bad Santa; Bad Taste.

C.) Four places I have lived
Mandeville, South Milford, Bishopbriggs, Ayr.

D.) Four TV shows that I watch
Pass. I don't watch much these days. I remember Tomorrow's World, Interceptor, Secret Army and The Tube with affection, though, if that helps.

E.) Four places I have been:
Port Royal, New Orleans, Plockton, Cape Cod.

F.) People who e-mail me (regularly):
My brother, Lara, Seth, Phil.

G.) Four of my favourite foods:
Onions, Mushrooms, Tomatoes, Custard. Not usually all at the same time.

H. ) Four places I would rather be right now:
Bikini Atoll, Lake Baikal, on the Silk Road, in orbit around Saturn (assuming I could get back safely).

J.) Four things I am looking forward to this year:
Going to Oregon, Seeing My Bloody Valentine again, Beltane, the I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue tour.

K.) Four favourite authors:
Gene Wolfe, Iain Banks, Ursula le Guin, Kurt Vonnegut.

Another frosty morning - the third in a row, and the hardest. I came to work under a cloudless and glassy blue. I went home from the pub last night in sub-zero temperatures, with Orion huge in the south ahead of me. Sirius was low on the horizon, and the Pleiades high to the right. I don't remember Mars, but it had been hanging low earlier. I love the winter sky.

So. Conrad Black as well, eh? The Great and the Good are getting careless.

Gordon was right again? Christ, this is getting tedious. Fuck up, man, for Gods sake!

Irving's likely to be held in the cells for at least a week, apparently. Right treatment, very possibly, but the wrong charge.

Gene Wolfe may be or possibly has been writing Soldier of Sidon.

The Guardian today says "Little Britain is now indistinguishable from its true ancestor, The Dick Emery Show."

There's a documentary on BBC4 tonight about Josephine Baker.

And, errr, should they wish to participate, may I be so bold as to nominate [livejournal.com profile] gingiber, [livejournal.com profile] sabledemon, [livejournal.com profile] kiaransalyn, [livejournal.com profile] scylla and [livejournal.com profile] darkstones? Although if you don't mind me not being limited to five, I'd actually be interested in what nearly all of you think.

Paul Nizan, apparently.

I got another Interpol album over the weekend, and it's very good. About as different from the two I already have as they are from each other, and just as much fun. For some reason it doesn't say "Interpol" on it anywhere, but instead is labelled "Editors". Even so, I've no idea how they managed to sneak it out with so little publicity1. And a package arrived yesterday which I thought was a bit small for an Illuminati expansion, but it turned out it was a couple of Gin Palace CDs. I'd forgotten about having ordered them, but happily the band themselves hadn't.

Ordered another half-gig for the PC. Thirty quid for half a gig? I can remember when it was that much for four megs. And it wasn't all that long ago, either.

Very tempted by a cheap LJ5. And possibly by an OM2000. I've been thinking I'd like spot-metering, and it turns out there's a camera which is almost exactly like what I have, but with spot-metering. And a lot cheaper than an OM4. And almost indescribably cheaper than an OM3. But I'm buying too many records and concert tickets already and some evil evil individual has just told me that the Young Gods are touring soon too, so spending on anything very much may have to wait a while.

Peter denies all knowledge of the other lens, which leaves us at an impasse.

I'm tempted by the ten-songs-I'm-not-ashamed-of thing, but I'm stalled at six. I can, on the other hand, manage ten Things I Love About Where I Live, but could I manage to stop at only ten?

Zotz in Serving Years in Tibet
[livejournal.com profile] zotz (Adrien Brody) has made the worst career move of his life. With that familiar conspiracy theory ring, his ability to persuade his party is not what it used to be, and [livejournal.com profile] batswing, his secretary (Neve Campbell), is in a mess of her own. [livejournal.com profile] kisin (Burt Reynolds) devises the pizza. It is said that power is the ultimate aphrodisiac. That utterly fails to be true in this instance.
